“For us to be selected among the best in the world for the quality and excellence of our development in St. Ann for the second time in six months speaks volumes of what we have been able to achieve at Richmond, St. Ann. It is a fitting tribute to our team headed by our Chairman Lee Issa, project managers, staff and of course our homeowners” said Steve Bennett.
Mr. Bennett noted that when Richmond, St. Ann won the International Quality Gold Award in May, it was through nomination after a series of consultations by the global entity, Business Initiative Directions (B.I.D.), with company executives from 117 countries. These consultations were held over a twelve month period in Paris, London, Madrid, Geneva, New York and Frankfurt and on the basis of international quality regulations and criteria of the Total Quality Management Model, Richmond, St. Ann was designated to receive the award in the gold category.

An elated Steve Bennett, Managing Director of Richmond Development Company Limited receiving the B.I.D international award in New York, May 28th, 2012. To Mr. Bennett’s left is Mr. Jose. E Prieto, President and CEO of Business Initiative Directions, B.I.D
“On the heels of that award in May comes this new global award for excellence from an international body which has an association with over 7,000 companies from 160 countries. For Richmond, St. Ann to be on the list of top achievers in this type of company means we are doing something very special in Jamaica,” said Mr. Bennett.
As Jamaica’s first green housing development, Richmond, St. Ann is an environmental dream. Homeowners are enjoying the beautifully constructed houses which feature pristine landscaped lawns, verges and parks, making it the ideal place to live. The developers have place a premium on using renewable energy to satisfy most of the energy needs in the development. Uniquely, all the street lights in the development are powered by solar energy, the first such community of its kind in Jamaica. In addition, every home is outfitted with a solar water heater as a standard feature for purchasers and initial work has been done to stimulate the home owners to go fully solar with their units, which is critical in an environment characterized by high energy and electricity costs.
The green community concept has been further enhanced by a special initiative which has been developed to cover how Richmond, St. Ann handles and manages it garbage disposal.
Commenting on the latest award, Steve Bennett said, “This development has been a dream come true. This is just what Lee Issa envisioned when he acquired sections of the old Richmond sugar estate in St. Ann and assembled a team of professionals to transform his dream into a reality. Today it is a model community which has become home to hundreds of Jamaican families at home and abroad”.

Richmond Development in St. Ann receives 2012 International Quality Summit Gold Award.

The Richmond Housing Development in St. Ann has taken another quantum leap forward as they were presented with the prestigious International Quality Summit Award (IQS) Gold Award on Monday, May 28, 2012 for its demonstration of quality and excellence.
The Award was accepted by Steve Bennett, Managing Director respectively of Richmond Development Company Limited, at the International Quality Convention that was held in the spectacular ballroom at the New York Marriott Marquis in Manhattan, on Monday May 28, 2012. Richmond, St. Ann was presented with the signature gold award for being a leader in its industry and for outstanding quality awareness.
Richmond, St. Ann was nominated after a series of consultations by the global entity, Business Initiative Directions (B.I.D.), with company executives from 117 countries. These consultations were held over a twelve month period in Paris, London, Madrid, Geneva, New York and Frankfurt and on the basis of IQS regulations and criteria of the Total Quality Management Model, Richmond, St. Ann was designated to receive the international quality award in the gold category.

Reflecting on the award, Steve Bennett describes the Richmond Development experience as a "search for excellence and a dream come through." He remembers how the dream began. "Several years ago, having been diverted to drive through a popular housing development in Montego Bay, Lee Issa could not understand how a decent housing development could be allowed to transition into being a concrete jungle, spoilt by the obvious signs of a lack of adherence to the quality standards that exist in first world countries close to us. He could not understand why our people should be short changing themselves, and why as a country, we should be accepting mediocrity as a way of life even in the way we organize the places we call home."
It was during the drive through that housing development in Montego Bay that Lee Issa's wonderful dream of Richmond, St. Ann was born. "I want to raise the bar on what a modern housing development should look and feel like. It had to be a place with no less excellence than you would find elsewhere in more developed countries, " notes Lee Issa.
He insisted that it could be done and when given the opportunity to acquire sections of the old Richmond sugar estate in St. Ann, the dream was in full motion. Lee Issa engaged the assistance of Steve Bennett to be the point person to capture his dream and bring it into reality. A team of professionals was assembled and the dream was meticulously transformed from thought to reality with Lee being the main decision maker in all the design details. "I didn't care if I made any money on this project. I wanted to establish and create something that all Jamaica would be proud of", noted the prominent hotelier and businessman.

After the challenges of the recession in the Unites States and Europe a few years ago, the project got into full swing and the dream unfolded almost exactly as Lee had envisioned it. Richmond, St. Ann truly raised the bar. The beautifully constructed houses with pristine landscaped lawns, verges and parks quickly emerged as a beacon in the area. As was desired and planned, Richmond, St. Ann became the place to live, and the place to start a new life story. Tied to the quality standards established was the injection of a concept of developing a green community and in keeping with this objective, much emphasis was placed on using renewable energy to satisfy most of the energy needs in the development.
Uniquely, all the street lights in Richmond, St. Ann are powered by solar energy, the first such community of its kind in Jamaica. In addition, every home is outfitted with a solar water heater as a standard feature for purchasers and initial work has been done to stimulate the home owners to go fully solar with their units, which is critical in an environment characterized by high energy and electricity costs. In fact the present model unit at Richmond, St. Ann is being completely run by solar energy. The green community concept has been further enhanced by a special initiative which has been developed to cover how Richmond, St. Ann handles and manages it garbage disposal.
The International Quality Gold Summit Award 2012 is a fitting tribute to Lee Issa, Steve Bennett and their team for the hard work they have put in to develop a model community, and for transforming a dream into a wonderful reality for hundreds of Jamaican families home and abroad.
